Pippi Longstocking
The most recent chapter book I read to my daughters (ages five and six), was the beloved Pippi Longstocking. I remember watching the old, old, ancient show that aired on TV in the 80s with English voice overs. This was my first and probably last experience with Pippi. I'm so glad I didn't stop there. I discovered the chapter book, Pippi Longstocking by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, in my classroom library a few months ago and thought it would be a fun summer read to my girls. We weren't disappointed. The first few pages had all of us rolling in laughter. Each chapter will leave you grinning ear to ear, like Pippi's infectious smile. So cleverly written and such a timeless piece of children's literature. After finishing the book, we watched The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking movie, made sometime in the 90's I believe. Not a Redbox rental however...must dig it up from the dungeons of the public library. Pretty cheesy movie in my opinion, but my girls LOVED it. Now my five-year old wants to be Pippi for Halloween!
